About us - Training School
Why train with us
The Authentic Education Training School is a diverse, vibrant, learning community of 13 schools, which include mainstream Primary and Secondary, in addition to specialist provision for Primary and Secondary children that have social and emotional difficulties. Our schools are based in the Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth area.
We offer an exciting opportunity to train with a dynamic and forward thinking Trust, where you will be a valued member of a dedicated and professional team of staff.
We have had a very high pass rate since our school-led programme began and offer our own bespoke training package in addition to the Winchester University sessions.
During the programme you will be supported by either a class tutor / professional mentor within the school setting, alongside your professional tutor at the University.
We also support all our trainees with gaining employment for their first teacher posts, once they have achieved QTS.
Anyone who is interested in applying to train with us is welcome to make an appointment to visit, tour any of our schools and discuss your individual needs.
Placement Information
Placements take place within Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth. However, your preferences, including geographical location, are taken into consideration.
The programme has three placements, two of which are assessed. The formative placement takes place from the course start date in September until Christmas. The spring placement runs for nine weeks from the beginning of January and the final placement from mid March to the end of the course. The placements are carefully planned and supported by a teacher mentor and University link tutor.
Theoretical training is normally taught on Fridays at the school partnership by colleagues in your partner schools. Subject specific training sessions are often taught by Winchester University colleagues. Trainees attend Winchester University for a couple of days at the beginning of the programme and very occasionally at other times.
You will spend a further 20 days engaged in Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) weeks, where you will develop a reflective approach to your practice and the ability to work flexibly, responsively, and effectively in the classroom.
Interview Details
If you already meet or are expected to meet our entry requirements, and have demonstrated your passion and commitment to teaching in your application, you will be invited to attend an interview.
The interview is your chance to demonstrate your potential to become a successful teacher. The interview day consists of a written task, maths task, short lesson (30mins) to a group of pupils and individual interview. Further information about the format of the day will be sent to you via email in advance of the interview date.
The interview is also your chance to find out more about the Trust, the course and the schools that we use for placements.
