Testimonials

My teacher training year was a whirlwind of a year, and a time that is unforgettable in so many ways. I found myself flourishing and gaining a confidence that was unbeknown to me, learning a career that I had long wanted to be my reality. Teacher training can be tough, but in a supportive setting with a knowledgeable and professional staff behind you, all of the hard work is worthwhile.

From day one, I had lots of hands on time in a classroom which I think is critical. I was able to immerse myself fully into typical school days, having opportunities to not only teach, but observe colleagues around the school. With well thought out specialist weekly sessions, I was able to put into practice the theory of what I was learning week by week, setting achievable goals and reflecting on my practice along the way.

Training can be tough, and with the added addition of assignments and planning, it is important that you are able to manage your time well. The course fitted in well with my personal circumstances, which allowed me an important ‘work’/life balance. I found myself well supported, with any issues that would arise.  This made me feel confident and also valued during my training.

I am currently working in the school that I trained in, nearing the end of my first ECT year. The teacher training year was an immersive way to get a feel for school life, being a teacher and all of the things that entails. I have continued this year to be a reflective practitioner and I feel that the programme of teacher training that I followed was beneficial in many ways, assisting me to get that very first job in a school.

The inspiration to get into teaching began at an SEN school, where I was first allowed to teach Geography. From there, it just started to positively snowball into my first year of teacher training. I experienced my first lesson of a full class, which was incredibly daunting seeing 32 students in a class, however, after the initial 10 minutes, I felt like this was the job for me. I fell in love with the school on my first day, the atmosphere was good and I felt like it could turn into a place I could belong. I got the call back the same day to offer me a place with the Authentic Training School.
